Version 2024.21: better features for small festivals and events

We are pleased to introduce the latest version of our app, FOLKLORE. Update 2024.21 brings a solid batch of improvements, especially for smaller events. Photos and maps are now sharper than the view from the top of a hill, tablets are more comfortable, and you can now tell whether a festival is suitable for children or has been cancelled.

A view for smaller events

At festivals with only one event, that event now appears automatically as soon as you open the app. Our aim is to make FOLKLORE easy and accessible for one-day events and smaller festivals too. A summer survey we ran on social networks and at festivals showed strong interest in small and mid-sized events.

In the months ahead we are preparing plenty of content just for them, so if you run a small event, do not hesitate: join FOLKLORE, and it is free.

A better interface

We reshaped the interface so it is easier to work with. The buttons for saving, marking favourites, and getting around are now more intuitive. The bottom menu takes up less space, the colours are tuned so they are easier on the eyes, and dark mode is more welcome than a coffee break after a shift.

More images and content

Images now load faster because we use the new .webp format. They are up to 95% smaller than before, which makes the whole app noticeably quicker. Images are also saved on your device, so the next time you open them you will not have to wait, and you will use less data.

For events such as Strážnice 2024, which have several images, we now show all of them, and you can look at them in full with one tap.

You will also notice a new icon for events that are suitable for children, a mark for cancelled events, and a simpler festival view.

A smarter map and places

Maps now respond to the area you can see, so you no longer have to zoom in by hand. When you open an event or a particular place, everything is easier to find, because places have their own panel where you can filter the events at that place. Tap a place on the map and you are off.

More stability, and bug fixes

This version is not only about new features. We paid careful attention to stability and speed, fixed more than 50 small bugs, and improved the app's security with encrypted storage and an updated access token.

Try the update

The new version is already available on the App Store and Google Play. If these changes excite you, share FOLKLORE with friends and tell us how you like the new features. If you have questions or ideas for improvements, write to us. We are here to make FOLKLORE as good an experience as we can.
